Frequently Asked Questions
No, everything you need for your holiday is included - your vehicle, insurance, cooking gas, all onboard camping equipment etc, there is nothing extra to pay. You have an option to hire bedding and towels and extra choice options for insurance - if you choose. These are all shown clearly in the Book Now section but the advertised headline price includes everything else.
No, a 25% deposit secures the booking – the balance is due with 6 weeks to go.
Almost certainly yes. European, US, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand licenses qualify automatically. Any others we may need to refer to our insurers – even in extreme cases there is usually a way.
We are easy to get to – just 32 mins by train from central Edinburgh and collection and return to North Berwick station is included. Our office hours are 09.00 - 5.00 and collections and drop offs are within these times. Airport pick ups and drop offs may be possible by special arrangement and at additional costs. Our access is so easy our customers generally come to us.
Space is very cleverly used in our Puffins. The rear seat becomes the bed and the bed is 185cm x 105cm (6’ by 3’ 5”) Cosy but adequate for most.
Yes, we have dog friendly vans, please note on the Booking Form if you intend to bring your pet. There are a few common sense rules, the dog should not go on the upholstery, should have his/her own basket or blanket (for sleeping) be adequately restrained at all times and not be left alone in the van. There may also be the possibility of additional charges if our cleaners need to do further cleaning.
Yes, there is an option of automatic transmission on Puffin 2 for those drivers who are unable to drive manual gearboxes. If you require automatic transmission please request this before you make a booking (there may be a charge). Puffin 2 Plus all have manual 6-speed gearboxes. All Puffins are easy to drive.
During busy periods and if you have a structured itinerary you may choose to book campsites ahead - although it is generally not necessary and you can book in on the day. If pre-booking you should consider that since the vehicle is effectively a car and will not be connected to the campsite power system (in the case of P2+ you have the choice) you might prefer a tent pitch. This will save you 60-70% of the campsite fee.
In Scotland generally yes and this is a highly recommended way of maintaining flexibility. A strategy of a couple of days wild camping then 1 night in a campsite is a typical strategy. We have extra information on the site explaining this.
Yes, you are likely to have a very good time in your small campervan.

Ian is super friendly helpful and available. He gave us very good tips for where to stay what to visit which are highlights of our trips. Scotland gave us a good taste of its weather but we still had an amazing time in our puffin campervan. IGOR SOROA2025-05-20Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. 100% recomendado si estás planeando hacer una ruta en furgo Eimear Ryan2025-05-15Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We hired the Puffin 2 Plus for 5 days and it was absolutely brilliant. The van was kitted out with everything you could possibly need – we were genuinely impressed by how much was packed into such a neat little space. It was the perfect size for the Highlands, especially when tackling those narrow, winding roads where anything bigger would’ve been a bit of a nightmare! Ian was fantastic from the get-go – really easy to deal with, always quick to respond, and full of helpful advice. He gave us some great route suggestions that meant we weren’t doubling back on ourselves or wasting time on the road, which made the trip feel really smooth and well-paced. If you're thinking about exploring Scotland by campervan, we couldn't recommend Puffin Campervans more. We saw stunning scenery, met a few Highland cows, and only had a couple of minor arguments with the sat nav – all part of the experience! We had an absolutely fantastic experience renting Puffin, the perfect small campervan for our 10-day road trip through Scotland in September 2024. From start to finish, everything was seamless, and we couldn’t have asked for a better way to explore this beautiful country. Ian, the owner, was incredibly welcoming and helpful. He picked us up at the North Berwick train station and even gave us a quick lesson on driving on the left side of the road on the way to his base—something we really appreciated! The handover process was smooth and hassle-free, with Ian taking the time to explain everything we needed to know about the van. He even helped us plan our itinerary, giving us great recommendations for must-see spots along the way. Puffin itself was a dream to travel in—compact yet comfortable, easy to drive, and perfectly equipped for our adventure. Whether winding through the dramatic landscapes of the Highlands, parking by stunning lochs, or camping under the stars, we felt completely at home. The van handled Scotland’s roads beautifully, and we had zero issues throughout the trip. Returning the van was just as easy as picking it up, making the whole experience stress-free and enjoyable. If you’re looking for a reliable, well-maintained, and perfectly-sized camper for your Scottish road trip, we highly recommend renting Puffin from Ian. His excellent service, combined with the incredible freedom of van life in Scotland, made this a trip we will never forget! Thank you, Ian, for making our adventure so special—we can’t wait to come back! Maddie Turner2024-09-26Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I did a trip of Scotland for a week in one of the FIATs in July. I have to say Ian was amazing to deal with, with great and honest communication and makes you feel welcome straight off the train. I would highly recommend. Not only that, but the van itself was a dream to drive, and I felt safe on the sometimes narrow roads, allowing me to access great places in Scotland other campervans can't take you. When I come back, I will definitely be hiring a Puffin camervan. Do yourself a favour and hire one of these for a safe, amazing time! The van was easy to drive, handling like a regular car, making navigating cities and rural areas simple. Its compact size was a major plus compared to traditional motorhomes, making parking and maneuvering a breeze. The Doblo was fully equipped with everything needed for a comfortable trip. The space was used efficiently, offering plenty of room and storage without feeling cramped. It was perfect for both short getaways and longer adventures. Additionally, the van was fuel-efficient, keeping travel costs down, and it was in excellent condition with modern amenities. Overall, I highly recommend Puffin Campervans for anyone seeking a reliable and enjoyable camper rental. Ana Gom2024-08-10Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We rented a campervan for 7 days and it was definitely one of my best traveling memories! The campervan is perfect for two, and also perfect to drive to Skye (as it's not very big and up there is full of single lane roads). Ian was super helpful during the whole process, so kind and willing to help as much as he could.
